Dimity Shepherd is one of Australia’s most experienced and renowned mezzo sopranos, with over 25 years experience as a professional singer and performer in opera and musical theatre. A three-time green room award winner and 2018 Helpmann Nominee, Dimity has a reputation for delivering performances celebrated equally for their dramatic and vocal intensity.
A graduate of WAAPA’s Musical Theatre programme, Dimity has experience with a broad range of musical styles, from opera, music theatre, rock and jazz bands.
Dimity thrives on working with students to help them discover their vocal potential and activate the performer within. She sets a high priority on connecting the singing voice to text and intention, enabling students to sing with dramatic purpose as well as fine technique. She is highly skilled in providing a safe exploratory environment where students can overcome their fears and sing with confidence, artistry, and joy.
Dimity has a vast knowledge of vocal technique and is also skilled at teaching all areas of development with singers, including style, diction, language, posture, and breathing. She enjoys teaching students at all levels, from beginners to advanced.
Dimity is a Churchill Fellow and has judged many singing competitions including the Herald Sun Aria.
