Dr Ian Andrew
Ian Andrew is a teacher, performer, composer, pianist, musical director and lecturer with over twelve years experience in the performing arts. He completed a Ph.D in Music Studies (Composition) at the Elder Conservatorium while studying voice under the guidance of Opera Australia’s Peter Hopkins before moving to Melbourne and studying musical theatre at APO Arts Academy and voice with West-End performer Derek Taylor.
Ian is an active and passionate performer and musician and has performed principal roles in numerous operas and musicals in Victoria and interstate. He was twice a state finalist in the MBS Young Performer awards, was the recipient of the 2012 Arnold Matters Vocal Scholarship and was awarded ASME Young Composer of the Year for five consecutive years. He is also frequently engaged as a musical director and arranger for productions including operas, showcases and original cabarets, has appeared in several television commercials/programs and is a sought-after teacher and accompanist for auditions, examinations, recitals and performances with a vast knowledge of technique and repertoire across multiple genres including classical, jazz, music theatre and contemporary pop/rock. He teaches all ages and levels of experience from beginners to VCE/tertiary students to industry professionals and many of his students have gone on work professionally in the performing arts including roles in musicals such as Matilda and Kinky Boots as well as corporate and international cruise-ship contracts.
Ian also holds an Advanced Diploma of Languages (majoring in French) and is a qualified pilot and a registered app-developer. In 2015 he founded his own software company and is currently developing a series of interactive music-theory games due for release in early 2018.
